JB Burtch

Jack W. “JB” Burtch, Jr. has practiced labor and employment law for many years, working in large, mid-sized, and small firms throughout his career. Over that time, he has developed a broad perspective on the realities of legal practice and the challenges lawyers face at every stage.

Since 1994, JB has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Richmond School of Law, where he teaches Negotiations and Client Counseling. His work in both practice and the classroom has focused on helping law students and young lawyers navigate the transition into the profession.

Raising the Bar draws directly from that experience—bringing together the lessons, observations, and practical guidance that new lawyers are often expected to learn on their own.

JB has been recognized throughout his career for both legal ability and professional integrity, including long-standing distinctions from Martindale-Hubbell, Best Lawyers in America, and Virginia Super Lawyers, as well as his induction into the Virginia Lawyers Hall of Fame in 2023. He received the Virginia Bar Association’s Professionalism Award in 2025.
